In short
For the SBK health insurance card a selfie is enough, according to SBK: face centred, clearly recognisable and evenly lit, looking into the camera – no sunglasses, hat or other people. With SBK you upload the photo in the Meine SBK app under “Meine Daten” → “Foto hochladen”, where you can also take it directly. The same works in the web version at meine.sbk.org/foto-hochladen.

Photo requirements
What SBK itself says:
- No photo studio needed – SBK says a selfie is enough
- Face centred and clearly recognisable everywhere
- Evenly and brightly lit, looking into the camera
- No sunglasses, no hat, no other people
- By post: passport photo size 3.5 × 4.5 cm
Photo rejected – what now?
If your photo is rejected, SBK usually tells you why. Common reasons are shadows, a busy background, a tilted head or a face that is too small.
- Take a new photo in daylight from the front, head straight
- Face large enough in the frame (about 70–80% of the image height)
- Have the background replaced – FotoKlar does this automatically
- If the insurer rejects the purchased photo for not meeting its requirements, we refund the €7.99 in full
