  • Even daylight, no shadows

In short

To print passport photos yourself, use a 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 in) sheet with the photos at real size and print it at 100 % (“Actual size”), never “Fit to page”. A photo lab or drugstore kiosk print is the safest choice, because some offices do not accept home prints. Measure one photo afterwards: it must be exactly 35 × 45 mm.

The 10 × 15 cm print template

FotoKlar’s print sheet has the standard photo-print size of 10 × 15 cm, so any photo lab or kiosk can print it without resizing.

  • Several photos side by side at real size, with thin cutting lines
  • High-resolution JPG, ready for upload to a kiosk or online lab
  • Included with every biometric photo

Printing at a photo lab or drugstore kiosk

  1. 1Copy the print sheet to your phone or a USB stick
  2. 2At the kiosk or in the lab’s app choose 10 × 15 cm
  3. 3Choose “no crop” / show the whole image so nothing is cut off
  4. 4Collect the print and cut out one photo along the lines

Printing at home

  • Photo paper, ideally matte or semi-gloss, at least 10 × 15 cm
  • Print dialogue: “Actual size” or 100 %, no “Fit to page”
  • Highest print quality
  • Measure: one photo = 35 × 45 mm
Some authorities, for example the City of Stuttgart for the driving licence, do not accept self-printed photos. If in doubt, use a lab print.

Printing from a PC (Windows & Mac)

  • Open the print sheet in the Photos app (Windows) or Preview (Mac)
  • Choose 10 × 15 cm (4 × 6 in) photo paper as the paper size
  • Set the scaling to 100 % or “Actual size” and switch off “Fit to frame/page”
  • Print a test on plain paper first and measure one photo: 35 × 45 mm

Cutting the photos out correctly

  • Use a paper trimmer or a ruler and craft knife rather than scissors
  • Cut exactly along the thin lines
  • Measure afterwards: 35 × 45 mm
  • Do not bend the photo or touch the face area

When printed photos no longer work

Since 1 May 2025 German ID cards, passports and electronic residence permits only accept digitally transmitted photos – no prints.

For the driving licence, however, offices still ask for a printed photo. Read more on digital passport photo.

Frequently asked questions

Anything else? Write to us at support@approvavisa.com.

How do I print passport photos myself?

Print the 10 × 15 cm print sheet at 100 % (actual size) at a photo lab, a kiosk or at home, then cut out one photo.

Why is my printed photo the wrong size?

Almost always because the printer scaled it (“Fit to page”) or the kiosk cropped the image. Print at 100 % without cropping.

Do authorities accept home prints?

Not all. Some driving licence offices only accept lab prints; ask your office if in doubt.

Can I print a passport photo from my phone?

Yes: load the print sheet onto your phone and print it as 10 × 15 cm at a photo kiosk (for example at dm or Rossmann) or through a photo lab’s app – at 100 %, without cropping.

What does the print sheet cost?

It is included with the photo for €7.99; the print itself costs whatever your lab charges.
